Site Safety Training Classes
Urban Upbound receives funding from the New York City Council’s Construction Site Safety Initiative to provide New York City residents with access to training to achieve the US Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour Outreach Training in construction (commonly known as OSHA 30) as well as the NYC Department of Buildings 10-hour Site Safety Training (SST). Classes are delivered by OSHA-authorized trainers and are intended to provide construction workers with awareness of common job-related safety and health hazards and will help workers become compliant with the requirements of Local Law 196 of 2017.
Training Offerings
Our current training offerings are as follows:

NYC SST 10-Hour Site Safety Training in English and Spanish:
8-HR Fall Prevention Course
The 8-Hour Fall Prevention course teaches NYC construction workers key information about OSHA’s industry standards for fall prevention (29 CFR 1926 Subpart M). You’ll learn about different types of fall hazards, the three primary forms of fall protection and much more.
Falls account for one third of all construction fatalities in the United States, making them the industry’s leading cause of death. To reduce fall-related incidents on the job site, the NYC Department of Buildings now requires fall prevention training for all workers who need a Site Safety Training (SST) card under Local Law 196.
2-HR Drug and Alcohol Awareness Course
The 2-Hour Drug and Alcohol Awareness course explains how drugs affect the body and describes specific substance abuse risks related to the construction industry. You will learn about the consequences of drug abuse and actionable steps you can take to avoid working under the influence.
Abusing illicit drugs or alcohol can have devasting effects on a person’s health — especially among those with addiction. Working under the influence is particularly dangerous in the construction industry because it increases the risk of Focus Four hazards and potentially fatal accidents involving heavy equipment.
All classes, including printing of the OSHA 30 and SST cards, are free. The number of seats is limited and registration is required. To register for a class, please contact [email protected] or call 718-784-0877. Everyone will need to complete an assessment before their registration is confirmed.
