Closing access and delivery gaps to mental health care
About Mental Health & Wellness

Urban Upbound launched our Mental Health and Wellness Program to address the on-going mental health crisis in our community.

Our vision is to develop resilient individuals and communities by offering individualized mental health programs aimed at closing access and delivery gaps to mental health care.

The Mental Health Initiative is a wellness program created for low-income families who face barriers to quality mental health care due to cost and access. Our goal is to close the gap by providing compassionate, comprehensive, and culturally responsive counseling services. Using evidence-based and holistic approaches, we help youth and adults not only gain insight in therapy but also apply practical skills to real-life situations. Mental Health Services at Urban Upbound serve as a pathway to healthier living, teaching positive coping strategies, emotional regulation, and resilience in the face of life’s challenges. We provide a safe, supportive environment where clients can build self-esteem, reduce high-risk behaviors, and address mental health concerns that impact daily functioning and overall well-being.

The Challenge
  • Approximately 8% of adult New Yorkers experience symptoms of depression each year. 32% of adults living at or below the poverty line experience symptoms of depression each year.
  • In NYC, most of the youth with reported mental health disorders live in poverty.
  • Serious Mental Illness is more than twice as common for adults who live below 200% of the federal poverty level compared to those living 200% above it.
  • People from the city’s lowest income neighborhoods are twice as likely to be hospitalized for mental illness compared to residents from the highest income neighborhoods.
Urban Upbound proudly offers limited FREE one-on-one counseling with mental health professionals.

Our Mental Health and Wellness Program offers free, short-term counseling (up to 15 sessions) for youth and adults. The program is designed to support individuals and families as they address their most pressing mental health concerns. We pride ourselves on being judgment-free, inclusive, and confidential.

Our team of mental health professionals supports clients experiencing:

  • Depression & Anxiety
  • Trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress
  • Anger & Stress Management
  • Family & Relationship Challenges
  • Grief & Loss
